A fast way to open pages in new tab and close pages without having to find that close button is scroll click. Pressing down on the scroll wheel closes tabs under the mouse. Scroll click also opens new links in new tabs and is a great alternative to Ctrl click.

Mouse Gestures
Ever get lazy moving your mouse around? Mouse gestures is an addon available in Firefox and IE (and something that was always available in Opera) that allows you to navigate forward and back just with a right click of your mouse. Gestures are also customizable for bookmarks, close pages, and new pages.
